Irving, Texas is a city located right outside the city limits of Dallas, TX. Irving has a population of 239,798(according to the 2019 United States Census Bureau). Irving is located between the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex and is ranked as one of the most diverse cities in the United States.
Irving was founded in 1903 and is believed to be named after literary author Washington Irving. The name of the city was officially incorporated in 1914.
The city has a vast history in it’s young life. At one point it was home to the National Football League’s Dallas Cowboys. The Dallas Cowboys played their home games at Texas Stadium, which was demolished in 2010, as the team moved to Arlington, Texas . On April 2, 1985, Delta Airlines Flight 191 crashed on take off at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport.
Part of Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport, better known as DFW, lies within Irving. DFW is one of the busiest hubs in the United States. Many corporations have moved their headquarters to the metroplex and being that Dallas?Fort Worth is centrally located, many large events and conventions are held in the surrounding areas.
Irving has a public education system for grades K-12. There’s also private schools, preparatory schools and home to three college campuses(University of Dallas, North Lake College and DeVry University).
Irving does have a public mass transportation system(operated by Dallas Area Rapid Transit). There’s a bus line and rail line that flows through the city. The rail system will take around the majority of the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex.
