The city of Mesquite was found in 1878. The locals at the time named the city after Mesquite Creek. Mesquite, in its early years, was known for its train robberies and outlaws. Sam Bass, a renowned train robber, stole more than $30,000 one time off a train in downtown Mesquite.
The city does have a few large businesses with distribution/hub centers such as, United PArcel Service, Coca-Cola and FedEx.
There’s plenty of activities to do either on your own or with the family. The main attraction throughout the years is the Mesquite Championship Rodeo which is held at the Mesquite Arena. Other activities include a golf course(Mesquite Golf Club) and “Restaurant Row” which features dozens of options, so there’s no shortage of selection. Right across the highway from all the restaurants is Town East Mall, which opened in 1971.
Mesquite has a public education system for grades K-12, private schools and has two college campuses(Eastfield College and Columbia College-Mesquite Campus).
No public transportation is offered in Mesquite. It does, however, have its own airport(Mesquite Metro Airport).
